"When I was in Ireland (representing Australia in the International Rules Series), I got the flu and had some time to think.
(When I got back) I got some friends from a radio station to lend a hand in a plan. They rang and told my girlfriend that
she'd won a competition and she had to be at a certain place within half an hour to get the prize. I was waiting under a bridge
near where we first met and I had a camera and a ring," Akermanis says.
